CHILDREN’S DAY: BSiN CELEBRATES CHILDREN AT IDP CAMPS IN BENUE STATE
Break The Silence Initiative Nigeria, BSiN, had yesterday presented clothing materials, foodstuffs, and other items to children living in the Internally Displaced Persons(IDP) camps in Benue State to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day.
In her opening speech, the President/ Founder of the organization, Mrs. Phoebe Dooshima Awange, JP, who was unavoidably absent, represented by the Organization’s Media Director, Jeremiah Ikyernum, admonished parents on engaging themselves in learning useful vocation/technical skills while in the camps, assuring them that here is just a temporal phase in their lifetime, so poverty and challenges of life shouldn’t impel them to hand over their children to strangers to ease the burden. If need be, they should verify to know the source and nature of such guardians in order to forestall them from being used for ritual or criminal activities. In her words,
“Break The Silence Initiative Nigeria, BSiN, is an organization based in Lagos. We are committed to Children’s welfare. We’ve taken it upon ourselves to come to Benue State and celebrate these honorable children, to make them feel their childhood and the impact of Children’s Day. We are here to educate them to understand that they belong to a society that’s looking out for them. This day is set aside, specially for our children. They should remain being good children because the future is theirs; as an organization, we are working so hard to create a space for them to grow to become leaders because we are seen Presidents, Governors, and Ministers here in the camp”
The IDP camps visited were the Abagena Camp, located in North-Bank, Makurdi LGA, and the Daudu Camp, in Guma LGA, both in Benue state.
In their separate remarks, the camp commandants at Abagena and Daudu commended the effort of Break The Silence Initiative Nigeria for extending to them such humanitarian services and prayed for the organization.
It was indeed a successful outing.
