BSiN CELEBRATES NIGERIA’S CHILDREN AT CHILDREN’S DAY
The autonomous community of Makoko in Yaba District of Lagos state, went agog yesterday, the 27th day of May, 2019 as BSiN team visited the area to commemorate 2019 Children’s Day with the vulnerable children and youth on the theme ” Education Is The Right Of Every Child”
Makoko is a modest, rugged land, full of rogues that terrorize the area and the neighboring communities. The high level of mischievous scamps in this area is attributed to non- acquisition of western education of most inhabitants. Regrettably, the area is preoccupied by vulnerable children facing economic, health and educational challenges, also with prevalence in drug abuse and molestation among boys and girls.
Parents, caregivers as well as children were sensitized on the importance of education as the bedrock of national development. We urged parents to leverage on the compulsory and free basic education initiative undertaken by the Lagos State Government, and enroll their wards to schools.More so, part of the events at the sensitization program included the distribution of support materials for children and youths, clothing, food as well as BSiN-Teen Talk show.
In a special remark, the Baale of Aiyetoro Ilaje Community, the Ogunmayin III of Makoko expressed immense appreciation to BSiN team for finding his subjects worthy towards extending to them such humanitarian services. We therefore implore the government and the general public to work towards ending child abuse and drug abuse in the area and other places in the state where children and youths indulge themselves into these ill-mannerd lifestyles. Government should ensure stiffer punitive measures against the perpetrators of such acts.
The President and Board of Trustees of Break The Silence Initiative Nigeria, BSiN, heartily appreciate the sacrifice and donation from the sponsors of the program. It was indeed a huge success. To God be the glory!
We wish to encourage all other well meaning Nigerians to donate, for us to continue this noble cause. You can visit our website at www.breakthesilenceng.org
